SkyOS development status update

Robert Szeleney gave another update in regard to the development halt of SkyOS:

For the last weeks and as it looks like quite a few more weeks I'm in contact with a lot of people talking about their
ideas to continue SkyOS development. Unfortunately many people completely underestimate the amount of work required to manage a development team for SkyOS, either an open or closed source version, or completely lack vision and or motivation and or seriousness. Anyway, I'm still reading through my inbox hoping to get in contact with people with real motives and knowledge being able to bring SkyOS to the next level.

SkyOS dead ?

After months of waiting for some updates regarding the project Robert Szeleney made a post on the site telling that he seriosly underestimated the rapid development of new hardware technologies and that due to various reasons he doesn't have the time to keep working on SkyOS, thus the development was put to a halt.

Currently there are four solutions for the future of SkyOS:

  • Open source SkyOS
  • Make SkyOS available for free
  • Specialize on a yet to define niche
  • Stop SkyOS development

I rather hope for the OpenSource solution. There are some interesting technologies in SkyOS and it would be a shame to be wasted.

SkyOS - Crossbar Interface

Robert Szeleney is working on a Playstation 3 like crossbar interface for SkyOS.

From the announcement:

If you have ever used a PS3 you will be very familiar with the crossbar interface and its functionality. SkyOS tries to bring this feature right into a desktop OS.

Genode ported to Syllable Server OS

I'm a little late with this news, but hey, it's a news worth mentioning.

As announced on the website of the Syllable OS project, Genode has been ported to the server version of Syllable OS. Kaj de Vos of the Syllable project also considers the incorporation of Genode into the desktop version of Syllable, which would be a very interesting synergy.

Maybe this will speed up the development of Syllable OS.
